PM2.5 remote sensing data was applied in this study, and Theil-Sen Median trend analysis and the Mann-Kendall significance test were utilized to analyze the temporal and spatial variation in PM2.5 in the Shandong Province from 2000 to 2021. The influencing power of the influencing factors on the spatial differentiation of PM2.5 concentration in the Shandong Province was detected at the provincial-city-county levels based on Geo-detector data. The results showed that:① on the temporal scale, the mean ρ(PM2.5)in the Shandong Province ranged from 38.15 to 88.63 µg·m-3 from 2000 to 2021, which was slightly higher than the secondary limit of inhalable particulate matter (35 µg·m-3) in the Ambient Air Quality Standards. On the interannual scale, 2013 was the peak year for the variation in ρ(PM2.5) with a value of 83.36 µg·m-3, according to which the trend of PM2.5 concentrations in the Shandong Province was divided into two phases:a continuous increase and a rapid decrease. On the seasonal scale, PM2.5 concentration presented the distribution characteristics of "low in summer and high in winter and moderate in spring and autumn" and the U-shaped change rule of first decreasing and then increasing. ② On the spatial scale, the PM2.5 concentration in the Shandong Province presented a spatial distribution pattern of "high in the west and low in the east." The areas with high PM2.5 concentration were distributed in the western area of the Shandong Province, whereas the areas with low PM2.5 concentration were distributed in the eastern peninsula region. The spatial variation in the changing trend of PM2.5 concentration showed significant spatial heterogeneity, and the extremely significant decrease was mainly distributed in the eastern peninsula region. ③ The results of factor detection showed that climate factor was an important factor affecting the spatial differentiation of PM2.5 concentration in the Shandong Province. Mean temperature had the highest influence on the spatial differentiation of PM2.5 concentration in the Shandong Province, with a q value of 0.512. Provincial-city-county multi-scale detection results showed that the influencing factors affecting the spatial differentiation of PM2.5 concentration and their influencing power differed at different spatial scales. At the provincial scale, mean temperature, sunshine duration, and slope were the main factors affecting the spatial differentiation of PM2.5 concentration. At the city level, precipitation, elevation, and relative humidity were the main factors affecting the spatial differentiation of PM2.5. At the county level, precipitation, mean temperature, and sunshine duration were the main factors affecting the spatial variation in PM2.5 concentration.

BACKGROUND: Idiopathic rapid eye movement sleep behavior disorder (iRBD) is considered as a prodromal stage of synucleinopathies. Fecal short-chain fatty acid (SCFA) changes in iRBD and the relationships with synucleinopathies have never been investigated. OBJECTIVES: To investigate fecal SCFA changes among iRBD, multiple system atrophy (MSA), and Parkinson's disease (PD), and evaluate their relationships. METHODS: Fecal SCFAs and gut microbiota were measured in 29 iRBD, 42 MSA, 40 PD, and 35 normal controls (NC) using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry and 16S rRNA gene sequencing. RESULTS: Compared with NC, fecal SCFA levels (propionic, acetic, and butyric acid) were lower in iRBD, MSA, and PD. Combinations of these SCFAs could differentiate NC from iRBD (AUC 0.809), MSA (AUC 0.794), and PD (AUC 0.701). Decreased fecal SCFAs were associated with the common reducing SCFA-producing gut microbiota in iRBD, MSA, and PD. CONCLUSIONS: iRBD shares similar fecal SCFA alterations with MSA and PD, and the combination of these SCFAs might be a potential synucleinopathies-related biomarker. © 2024 International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society.

Cell migration is known to be a fundamental biological process, playing an essential role in development, homeostasis, and diseases. This paper introduces a cell tracking algorithm named HFM-Tracker (Hybrid Feature Matching Tracker) that automatically identifies cell migration behaviours in consecutive images. It combines Contour Attention (CA) and Adaptive Confusion Matrix (ACM) modules to accurately capture cell contours in each image and track the dynamic behaviors of migrating cells in the field of view. Cells are firstly located and identified via the CA module-based cell detection network, and then associated and tracked via a cell tracking algorithm employing a hybrid feature-matching strategy. This proposed HFM-Tracker exhibits superiorities in cell detection and tracking, achieving 75% in MOTA (Multiple Object Tracking Accuracy) and 65% in IDF1 (ID F1 score). It provides quantitative analysis of the cell morphology and migration features, which could further help in understanding the complicated and diverse cell migration processes.

Thioredoxin reductase 1 (TrxR1) has emerged as a promising target for cancer therapy. In our previous research, we discovered several new TrxR1 inhibitors and found that they all have excellent anti-tumor activity. At the same time, we found these TrxR1 inhibitors all lead to an increase in AKT phosphorylation in cancer cells, but the detailed role of AKT phosphorylation in TrxR1 inhibitor-mediated cell death remains unclear. In this study, we identified the combination of AKT and TrxR1 inhibitor displayed a strong synergistic effect in colon cancer cells. Furthermore, we demonstrated that the synergistic effect of auranofin (TrxR1 inhibitor) and MK-2206 (AKT inhibitor) was caused by ROS accumulation. Importantly, we found that ATM inhibitor KU-55933 can block the increase of AKT phosphorylation caused by auranofin, and exhibited a synergistic effect with auranofin. Taken together, our study demonstrated that the activation of ATM/AKT pathway is a compensatory mechanism to cope with ROS accumulation induced by TrxR1 inhibitor, and synergistic targeting of TrxR1 and ATM/AKT pathway is a promising strategy for treating colon cancer.

AIMS: The aim of this study was to analyse the effective lens position (ELP) in patients with Marfan syndrome (MFS) and ectopia lentis (EL). METHODS: Patients with MFS undergoing lens removal and primary intraocular lens (IOL) implantation were enrolled in the study. The back-calculated ELP was obtained with the vergence formula and compared with the theoretical ELPs. The back-calculated ELP and ELP error were evaluated among demographic and biometric parameters, including axial length (AL), corneal curvature radius (CCR) and white-to-white (WTW). RESULTS: A total of 292 eyes from 200 patients were included. The back-calculated ELP was lower in patients undergoing scleral-fixated IOL than those receiving in-the-bag IOL implantation (4.54 (IQR 3.65-5.20) mm vs 4.98 (IQR 4.56-5.67) mm, p<0.001). The theoretical ELP of the SRK/T formula exhibited the highest accuracy, with no difference from the back-calculated ELP in patients undergoing in-the-bag IOL implantation (5.11 (IQR 4.83-5.65) mm vs 4.98 (IQR 4.56-5.67) mm, p=0.209). The ELP errors demonstrated significant correlations with refraction prediction error (PE): a 1 mm ELP error led to PE of 2.42D (AL<22 mm), 1.47D (22 mm≤AL<26 mm) and 0.54D (AL≥26 mm). Multivariate analysis revealed significant correlations of ELP with AL (b=0.43, p<0.001), CCR (b=-0.85, p<0.001) and WTW (b=0.41, p=0.004). CONCLUSION: This study provides novel insights into the origin of PE in patients with MFS and EL and potentially refines existing formulas.

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to establish a highly sensitive and rapid single-tube, two-stage, multiplex recombinase-aided qPCR (mRAP) assay to specifically detect the khe, blaKPC-2, and blaNDM-1 genes in Klebsiella pneumoniae. METHODS: mRAP was carried out in a qPCR instrument within 1 h. The analytical sensitivities of mRAP for khe, blaKPC-2, and blaNDM-1 genes were tested using recombinant plasmids and dilutions of reference strains. A total of 137 clinical isolates and 86 sputum samples were used to validate the clinical performance of mRAP. RESULTS: mRAP achieved the sensitivities of 10, 8, and 14 copies/reaction for khe, blaKPC-2, and blaNDM-1 genes, respectively, superior to qPCR. The Kappa value of qPCR and mRAP for detecting khe, blaKPC-2, and blaNDM-1 genes was 1, 0.855, and 1, respectively (p < 0.05). CONCLUSION: mRAP is a rapid and highly sensitive assay for potential clinical identification of khe, blaKPC-2, and blaNDM-1 genes in K. pneumoniae.

BACKGROUND: Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) refers to a chronic impairing psychiatric disorder occurring after exposure to the severe traumatic event. Studies have demonstrated that medicinal cannabis oil plays an important role in neuroprotection, but the mechanism by which it exerts anti-PTSD effects remains unclear. METHODS: The chronic complex stress (CCS) simulating the conditions of long voyage stress for 4 weeks was used to establish the PTSD mice model. After that, behavioral tests were used to evaluate PTSD-like behaviors in mice. Mouse brain tissue index was detected and hematoxylin-eosin staining was used to assess pathological changes in the hippocampus. The indicators of cell apoptosis and the BDNF/TRPC6 signaling activation in the mice hippocampus were detected by western blotting or real-time quantitative reverse transcription PCR experiments. RESULTS: We established the PTSD mice model induced by CCS, which exhibited significant PTSD-like phenotypes, including increased anxiety-like and depression-like behaviors. Medicinal cannabis oil treatment significantly ameliorated PTSD-like behaviors and improved brain histomorphological abnormalities in CCS mice. Mechanistically, medicinal cannabis oil reduced CCS-induced cell apoptosis and enhanced the activation of BDNF/TRPC6 signaling pathway. CONCLUSIONS: We constructed a PTSD model with CCS and medicinal cannabis oil that significantly improved anxiety-like and depressive-like behaviors in CCS mice, which may play an anti-PTSD role by stimulating the BDNF/TRPC6 signaling pathway.

AIM: New-onset diabetes mellitus is a frequent and severe complication arising after liver transplantation (LT). We aimed to identify the risk factors for new-onset diabetes mellitus after liver transplantation (NODALT) and to develop a risk prediction score system for relevant risks. METHODS: We collected and analyzed data from all recipients who underwent liver transplantation at the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Jiaotong University. The OR derived from a multiple logistic regression predicting the presence of NODALT was used to calculate the risk prediction score. The performance of the risk prediction score was externally validated in patients who were from the CLTR (China Liver Transplant Registry) database. RESULTS: A total of 468 patients met the outlined criteria and finished the follow-up. Overall, NODALT was diagnosed in 115 (24.6%) patients. Age, preoperative impaired fasting glucose (IFG), postoperative fasting plasma glucose (FPG), and the length of hospital stay were significantly associated with the presence of NODALT. The risk prediction score includes age, preoperative IFG, postoperative FPG, and the length of hospital stay. The risk prediction score of the area under the receiver operating curve was 0.785 (95% CI: 0.724-0.846) in the experimental population and 0.782 (95% CI: 0.708-0.856) in the validation population. CONCLUSIONS: Age at the time of transplantation, preoperative IFG, postoperative FPG, and length of hospital stay were independent predictive factors of NODALT. The use of a simple risk prediction score can identify the patients who have the highest risk of NODALT and interventions may start early.

Stroke represents a significant threat to global human health, characterized by high rates of morbidity, disability, and mortality. Predominantly, strokes are ischemic in nature. Ischemic stroke (IS) is influenced by various cell death pathways, notably autophagy and ferroptosis. Recent studies have increasingly highlighted the interplay between autophagy and ferroptosis, a process likely driven by the accumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Post-IS, either the inhibition of autophagy or its excessive activation can escalate ROS levels. Concurrently, the interaction between ROS and lipids during ferroptosis further augments ROS accumulation. Elevated ROS levels can provoke endoplasmic reticulum stress-induced autophagy and, in conjunction with free iron (Fe2+), can trigger ferroptosis. Moreover, ROS contribute to protein and lipid oxidation, endothelial dysfunction, and an inflammatory response, all of which mediate secondary brain injury following IS. This review succinctly explores the mechanisms of ROS-mediated crosstalk between autophagy and ferroptosis and the detrimental impact of increased ROS on IS. It also offers novel perspectives for IS treatment strategies.

BACKGROUND: Central hypothyroidism (CH) is characterized by low T4 levels and reduced levels or bioactivity of circulating TSH. However, there is a lack of studies on CH-related intestinal maldevelopment. In particular, the roles of TH and TSH/TSHR signaling in CH-related intestinal maldevelopment are poorly understood. Herein, we utilized Tshr-/- mice as a congenital hypothyroidism model with TH deprival and absence of TSHR signaling. METHODS: The morphological characteristics of intestines were determined by HE staining, periodic acid-shiff staining, and immunohistochemical staining. T4 was administrated into the offspring of homozygous mice from the fourth postnatal day through weaning or administrated after weaning. RT-PCR was used to evaluate the expression of markers of goblet cells and intestinal digestive enzymes. Single-cell RNA-sequencing analysis was used to explore the cell types and gene profiles of metabolic alternations in early-T4-injected Tshr-/- mice. KEY FINDINGS: Tshr deletion caused significant growth retardation and intestinal maldevelopment, manifested as smaller and more slender small intestines due to reduced numbers of stem cells and differentiated epithelial cells. Thyroxin supplementation from the fourth postnatal day, but not from weaning, significantly rescued the abnormal intestinal structure and restored the decreased number of proliferating intestinal cells in crypts of Tshr-/- mice. Tshr-/- mice with early-life T4 injections had more early goblet cells and impaired metabolism compared to Tshr+/+ mice. SIGNIFICANCE: TH deprival leads to major defects of CH-associated intestinal dysplasia while TSH/TSHR signaling deficiency promotes the differentiation of goblet cells and impairs nutrition metabolism.

BACKGROUND: Transition shock occurs at a vulnerable time in newly graduated registered nurses' careers and has a clear impact on both newly graduated registered nurses' productivity and patient recovery outcomes. Identifying classification features of transition shock and targeting interventions to support newly graduated registered nurses is imperative. The study aimed to explore potential transition shock subgroups of newly graduated registered nurses and further explore the impact of population characteristics and two indices of health on transition shock. METHODS: A descriptive, cross-sectional design was conducted. An online questionnaire was sent via WeChat to newly graduated registered nurses who started work in 2021 at seven hospitals between August and November 2021, and 331 nurses filled out the questionnaire. Latent class analysis was used to identify the potential class of the transition shock of newly graduated registered nurses, and multinomial logistic regression analyses were used to determine the factors of potential classification. RESULTS: The study identified four classes of transition shock in newly graduated registered nurses, namely, "high transition shock", "physical fatigue-lack of knowledge", "development adaptation" and "low transition shock-worry" groups. Newly graduated registered nurses who urinated less than 4 times per day (OR = 0.051, 95% CI = 0.005-0.502) were likely to be in the "high transition shock" group. Newly graduated registered nurses who did not delay urination (OR = 4.267, 95% CI = 1.162-11.236) were more likely to belong to the "low transition shock-worry" group. Newly graduated registered nurses without sleep disturbance were more likely to be in the "physical fatigue - lack of knowledge" (OR = 3.109, 95% CI = 1.283-7.532), "development adaptation" (OR = 8.183, 95% CI = 2.447-27.066), and "low transition shock-worry" (OR = 8.749, 95% CI = 1.619-47.288) groups than in the 'high transition shock' group. CONCLUSIONS: This study highlights potential patterns of transition shock among newly graduated registered nurses. Two indices of health, namely, delayed urination and sleep disturbance, can predict the subgroups of newly graduated registered nurses with transition shock.

Cytokine storm and ROS overproduction in the lung always lead to acute lung injury (ALI) and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) in a very short time. Effectively controlling cytokine storm release syndrome (CRS) and scavenging ROS are key to the prevention and treatment of ALI/ARDS. In this work, the naringin nanoparticles (Nar-NPs) were prepared by the emulsification and evaporation method; then, the mesenchymal stem cell membranes (CMs) were extracted and coated onto the surface of the Nar-NPs through the hand extrusion method to obtain the biomimetic CM@Nar-NPs. In vitro, the CM@Nar-NPs showed good dispersity, excellent biocompatibility, and biosafety. At the cellular level, the CM@Nar-NPs had excellent abilities to target inflamed macrophages and the capacity to scavenge ROS. In vivo imaging demonstrated that the CM@Nar-NPs could target and accumulate in the inflammatory lungs. In an ALI mouse model, intratracheal (i.t.) instillation of the CM@Nar-NPs significantly decreased the ROS level, inhibited the proinflammatory cytokines, and remarkably promoted the survival rate. Additionally, the CM@Nar-NPs increased the expression of M2 marker (CD206), and decreased the expression of M1 marker (F4/80) in septic mice, suggesting that the Nar-modulated macrophages polarized towards the M2 subtype. Collectively, this work proves that a mesenchymal stem cell membrane-based biomimetic nanoparticle delivery system could efficiently target lung inflammation via i.t. administration; the released payload inhibited the production of inflammatory cytokines and ROS, and the Nar-modulated macrophages polarized towards the M2 phenotype which might contribute to their anti-inflammation effects. This nano-system provides an excellent pneumonia-treated platform with satisfactory biosafety and has great potential to effectively deliver herbal medicine.

After the cancellation of the temporary corn storage system in 2016, the price of corn in China returned to market regulation, resulting in increased price volatility. This study focuses on monthly data from April 2016 to March 2023 in China. The partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) is employed to analyze the impact of corn supply and demand factors, substitute prices, monetary supply, international corn prices, and international energy prices on the volatility of corn prices in China. Results indicate that supply and demand factors are the most direct influencers of corn prices, with demand factors having the most significant impact. Monetary supply and substitute prices affect corn prices through the demand side. External factors mainly consist of international energy and corn prices. The impact of international energy on Chinese corn prices is achieved through international corn prices, which directly influence the prices in China. It is recommended to stabilize corn market prices by regulating corn supply and demand, to improve the monitoring and early warning mechanisms for international energy and corn prices, and to implement measures for prudent regulation of monetary supply.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the spatial heterogeneity of nontuberculous mycobacterial pulmonary disease (NTM-PD) in Shanghai. METHODS: A population-based retrospective study was conducted using presumptive pulmonary tuberculosis surveillance data of Shanghai between 2010 and 2019. The study described the spatial distribution of NTM-PD notification rates, employing hierarchical Bayesian mapping for high-risk areas and the Getis-Ord Gi* statistic to identify hot spots and explore associated factors. RESULTS: Of 1652 NTM-PD cases, the most common species was Mycobacterium kansasii complex (MKC) (41.9%), followed by Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC) (27.1%) and Mycobacterium abscessus complex (MABC) (16.2%). MKC-PD patients were generally younger males with a higher incidence of pulmonary cavities, while MAC-PD patients were more often farmers or had a history of tuberculosis treatment. MKC-PD hot spots were primarily located in the areas alongside the Huangpu River, while MAC-PD hot spots were mainly in the western agricultural areas. Patients with MKC-PD and MAC-PD exhibited a higher risk of spatial clustering compared to those with MABC-PD. CONCLUSIONS: Different types of NTM-PD exhibit distinct patterns of spatial clustering and are associated with various factors. These findings underscore the importance of environmental and host factors in the epidemic of NTM-PD.

Intercropping has the potential to enhance yields and nutrient availability in resource-limited agricultural systems. However, the effects on crop yield nutrients and soil properties can vary considerably depending on the specific plant combinations and intercropping ratios used. In this study, the advantages and impacts of intercropping C. esculentus with legumes were investigated by measuring their biomass, nutrient content, and soil properties. The experiment included five intercropping treatments: monoculture of C. esculentus (MC), intercropping of C. esculentus with Medicago sativa L. (alfalfa) at row spacing ratios of 4:4 (4:4CM) and 8:4 (8:4CM), and intercropping of C. esculentus with Glycine max (L.) Merr. (soybean), also at row spacing ratios of 4:4 (4:4CG) and 8:4 (8:4CG). Our results demonstrated that all four intercropping treatments (4:4CM, 4:4CG, 8:4CM, and 8:4CG) significantly increased the biomass of C. esculentus by approximately 41.05%, 41.73%, 16.08%, and 18.43%, respectively, compared with monoculture cultivation alone, among which the 4:4CG treatment was optimum. However, no significant differences were observed in alfalfa or soybean biomass across different intercropping ratios. A notable increase was found in the total nitrogen (TN) and total phosphorus (TP) contents in the leaves, roots, and tubers of C. esculentus under intercropping, along with increased soil organic carbon (SOC), alkaline-hydrolyzed nitrogen (AN), available phosphorus (AP), microbial biomass carbon (MBC), microbial biomass nitrogen (MBN), and soil water content (SWC), and significantly reduced the soil pH. Among the intercropping treatments, the 4:4CG treatment also exhibited the most favorable soil properties. In particular, compared with MC, the 4:4CG treatment resulted in significant increases of 163.8%, 394.6%, and 716.8% in SOC, AN, and AP contents, respectively. The same treatment also led to significant increases of 48.34%, 46.40%, and 208.65% in MBC, MBN, and SWC, respectively. Overall, the findings suggest that the use of 4:4CG intercropping is an effective approach for sustainable farming management in Xinjiang.

With the increase in breeding density of Exopalaemon carinicauda, appendage breakage may occur, which seriously affects survival and economic benefits. To study the limb regeneration process of E. carinicauda, we induced autotomy of the pereopods. After a period of time, wound swelling disappeared, the pigment gradually accumulated, and a tawny film subsequently formed in the wound. The healing period of the wound occurred 24 h after autotomy, and the blastema formation stage occurred 48 h after autotomy. After 4 days of cutting, the limb buds began to differentiate, grow, and expand rapidly, and this process lasted approximately 15 days. Microscopic observations revealed significant changes in the type and number of associated cells including outer epithelial cells, granulocytes, embryonic cells, columnar epidermal cells, elongated cells, and blastoma cells, during the process from limb fracture to regeneration. A comparative transcriptome analysis identified 1415 genes differentially expressed between the J0h (0 h post autotomy) and J18h (18 h post autotomy), and 3952 and 4366 differentially expressed genes for J0 and J14d (14 days post autotomy) and J18h and J14d, respectively. Some of these genes may be related to muscle growth or molting, as indicated by the presence of troponin C, chitinase, actin, innexin, and cathepsin L. As a functional gene involved in epidermal formation, the mRNA expression level of the innexin inx2 in the pereopod of E. carinicauda changed significantly in the experimental groups (p < 0.05). The results of this study contribute to existing knowledge of regeneration mechanisms in crustaceans.

Background: Isoniazid-resistant, rifampicin-susceptible tuberculosis (Hr-TB) globally exhibits a high prevalence and serves as a potential precursor to multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB). Recognizing the spatial distribution of Hr-TB and identifying associated factors can provide strategic entry points for interventions aimed at early detection of Hr-TB and prevention of its progression to MDR-TB. This study aims to analyze spatial patterns and identify socioeconomic, demographic, and healthcare factors associated with Hr-TB in Shanghai at the county level. Method: We conducted a retrospective study utilizing data from TB patients with available Drug Susceptible Test (DST) results in Shanghai from 2010 to 2016. Spatial autocorrelation was explored using Global Moran's I and Getis-Ord Gi∗ statistics. A Bayesian hierarchical model with spatial effects was developed using the INLA package in R software to identify potential factors associated with Hr-TB at the county level. Results: A total of 8,865 TB patients with DST were included in this analysis. Among 758 Hr-TB patients, 622 (82.06%) were new cases without any previous treatment history. The drug-resistant rate of Hr-TB among new TB cases in Shanghai stood at 7.20% (622/8014), while for previously treated cases, the rate was 15.98% (136/851). Hotspot areas of Hr-TB were predominantly situated in southwestern Shanghai. Factors positively associated with Hr-TB included the percentage of older adult individuals (RR = 3.93, 95% Crl:1.93-8.03), the percentage of internal migrants (RR = 1.35, 95% Crl:1.15-1.35), and the number of healthcare institutions per 100 population (RR = 1.17, 95% Crl:1.02-1.34). Conclusion: We observed a spatial heterogeneity of Hr-TB in Shanghai, with hotspots in the Songjiang and Minhang districts. Based on the results of the models, the internal migrant population and older adult individuals in Shanghai may be contributing factors to the emergence of areas with high Hr-TB notification rates. Given these insights, we advocate for targeted interventions, especially in identified high-risk hotspots and high-risk areas.

The photoperiod, which is defined as the period of time within a 24-hour time frame that light is available, is an important environmental regulator of several physiological processes in phytoplankton, including harmful bloom-forming phytoplankton. The ichthyotoxic raphidophyte Heterosigma akashiwo is a globally distributed bloom-forming phytoplankton. Despite extensive studies on the ecological impact of H. akashiwo, the influence of the photoperiod on crucial biological processes of this species remains unclear. In this study, gene expression in H. akashiwo was analyzed over a 24-hour light-dark (14:10) treatment period. Approximately 36 % of unigenes in H. akashiwo were differentially expressed during this 24-hour treatment period, which is indicative of their involvement in the response to light-dark variation. Notably, the number of differentially expressed genes exhibited an initial increase followed by a subsequent decrease as the sampling time progressed (T0 vs. other time points). Unigenes associated with photosynthesis and photoprotection reached their peak expression levels after 2-4 h of illumination (T12-T14). In contrast, the expression of unigenes associated with DNA replication peaked at the starting point of the dark period (T0). Furthermore, although several unigenes annotated to photoreceptors displayed potential diel periodicity, genes from various photoreceptor families (such as phytochrome and cryptochrome) showed unique expression patterns. Collectively, our findings offer novel perspectives on the response of H. akashiwo to the light-dark cycle, serving as a valuable resource for investigating the physiology and ecology of this species.

The receptor for activated protein kinase C1 (RACK1) belongs to the typical WD repeat family, which is extremely conservative and important in multiple signal transduction pathways related to growth and development that coordinate the intracellular role of various life activities. As a novel protein with versatile functions, it was found in a variety of organisms. In a previous study, we identified the RACK1 sequence of white shrimp from transcriptome data. In this study, we employed specialized bioinformatics software to conduct an in-depth analysis of EcRACK1 and compare its amino acid sequence homology with other crustaceans. Furthermore, we investigated the expression patterns of RACK1 at different developmental stages and tissues, as well as at various time points after exposure to Aroclor 1245, aiming to elucidate its function and potential response towards Aroclor 1245 exposure. The length of EcRACK1 is 957 nucleotides, which encodes 318 amino acids. Moreover, there were seven typical WD repeats in EcRACK1, which have more than a 96% sequence identity with the RACK1 proteins of Penaeus. The results of tissue expression and spatiotemporal expression showed that it was significantly increased in the II and IV stages, but had a significant tissue specificity in the hepatopancreas, spermary, and muscle tissues of E. carinicauda, adult stage. Compared to the control, EcRACK1 was significantly induced in E. carinicauda zoea larvae exposed to Aroclor 1254 for 6, 10, 20, and 30 d (p < 0.05). These results suggested that EcRACK1 may play an important role in the larval development and environmental defense of E. carinicauda.
